Job Location(s): 1310 Belaire Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 6B9, but long-haul routes are across Canada and the United States.

Type of Employment: This position is for permanent, full-time work.  This is a long-haul position, work hours are morning, day, evening, night, weekend, shift, overtime, on-call, and flexible hours.  To be determined.

Wage Offered: $36.60 with an overtime rate of $54.90 per hour after 50.00 hours of work in a week.

Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible

Education: Completion of Secondary School required. 

Language Requirement: Basic English ability at the Canadian Language Benchmark level 4 (English test required).

Credentials (certificates, license, memberships, courses, etc.)

• British Columbia Class 1 Driver's License, Air Brake (Z) Endorsement required.
• Heavy duty driving experience is an asset but not required.
• On the job training provided to anyone with a valid BC Class 1 Licence and Air Brake (Z) Endorsement.
• All applicants must complete the Mandatory Entry Level Training (MELT) in British Columbia.

Type of Trucking and Equipment: Straight truck (4,600kg or 10,000lbs with 3 axles), tractor-trailer, refrigerated, and highway.

Type of Travel: Routes vary considerably and include travel through British Columbia, across Canada, and the United States.  Driving in teams of two drivers or as a single driver.

Tasks: Operate and drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials; loading and unloading of goods; tarping and ensuring safety and security of cargo; planning travel schedules and routes; use of atlases and other trip planning aids; receiving and relaying information to central dispatcher; driving as part of a two-person team or convoy or as an individual driver; paying and receiving payments for goods; overseeing the condition of the vehicle and inspecting tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment.

Documentation Skills: Applicants must be capable of, or willing to learn how to use the following; bill of lading, driver logbook, inspection report, trans-border documentation, maintenance and repair reports.

Communication Equipment: Applicants must capable be capable of, or willing to learn how to use the following equipment; CB radio, cellular phone, and GPS equipment.

Security and Safety: Basic security clearance, criminal record check, clean drivers abstract, medical exam, drug test, and physically fit enough to weight handle up to 100 lbs.
