Caregiver / Home Support Worker – Private Household
Location: West Vancouver, BC (work in employer’s private residence)
Terms: Full-time, permanent; 40 hours/week; shift schedule with some weekends/holidays
Language of work: English, Cantonese speaking is an asset but not required.
Wage: $24.00 – $27.00 per hour (depending on experience); overtime, statutory holidays and vacation pay per BC Employment Standards
Benefits: CPP/EI; paid vacation (minimum 2 weeks/4%)
Live-in: Not required. A private furnished bedroom may be provided if mutually agreed (no room & board charges)
About the Role
We are seeking a compassionate, reliable Home Support Worker to provide attentive, high-quality care to two seniors in our family home. The role focuses on daily personal care, safe mobility support, health monitoring, and preparing Chinese-style, senior-friendly meals following family dietary plans (e.g., low-salt/low-oil).
Key Responsibilities
• Assist with activities of daily living: bathing, hygiene, grooming, toileting, dressing, safe transfers/ambulation
• Monitor and record basic health indicators; administer medications as directed; maintain accurate logs and care notes
• Plan and prepare nutritious, Chinese-style meals that suit seniors’ taste and dietary needs (e.g., soft textures, low-sodium, diabetic-friendly as applicable); ensure safe food handling
• Provide companionship; engage in memory-friendly and meaningful activities
• Accompany seniors to medical or other appointments; coordinate transportation and appointment notes
• Light housekeeping related to seniors’ care: laundry, tidying of common areas, errands for the seniors
• Follow individualized care plans and collaborate respectfully with family members and healthcare providers
Qualifications
• Minimum 1 year full-time, paid experience in home support/caregiver work with seniors OR completion of a recognized HCA/PSW/caregiver training program
• Current Standard First Aid & CPR
• Criminal record & vulnerable sector check (required upon hire)
• TB test and other immunizations as per public health guidance (upon hire)
• Strong communication and documentation skills; patience, empathy, cultural sensitivity
• Physically able to assist safe mobility and handle occasional lifts (up to ~20 kg)
• Asset (preferred, not required): Experience preparing Chinese cuisine tailored for seniors; experience with post cancer treatment care; valid BC driver’s licence & clean abstract
Schedule & Work Conditions
• 40 hours/week; daytime schedule with some evenings/weekends as needed; overtime per BC ESA
