Construction Helpers

To assist our welders, carpenters, transport truckers, and other trades

Work Location: This job requires working at various construction job sites in Nova Scotia

General Job Duties

• Load and unload construction materials and move those materials to work areas
• Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, and ramps
• Mix, pour and spread materials such as concrete
• Assist our skilled trades in construction, welding, carpentry, and cement applications.
• Remove waste materials, rubble and other debris
• Tend equipment used in construction, such as welding equipment,
• Oil and grease equipment
• Perform other activities at construction sites as directed.

Salary: $21/hour and up, depending on experience

Education 

• K-12 (High school) diploma

Trade certification: 

Certain construction helper activities are regulated in Nova Scotia. Candidates not licensed in Nova Scotia must be willing to work towards certification. This occupation is regulated in NS, and candidates will work under certified trades until they get certified themselves. 

Languages

• English

Work experience

• At least 1 year of proven experience

Security and safety

• Must be able to obtain police clearances

Skills required

• Cleaning and house/shop keeping
• Mechanical installing and maintenance
• Operating different types of equipment
• Loading and unloading materials
• Able to lift heavy materials weighing up to 50 pounds

Personal suitability

• Requires attention to details
• Must be willing to undergo training in work areas with which they are unfamiliar
• Team player
